Rep. John Sullivan speaks to Oklahoma Watchdog

WASHINGTON – Last month, during the weeklong Climate Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, some important voices of opposition flew to the Danish capital to meet with delegates and talk to Danish politicians about why the “Copenhagen Treaty” was not a good idea.
And while U.S. Sen. James Inhofe, the senior Oklahoma Republican senator from Tulsa, led the a delegation of American politicians to persuade folks to vote against the treaty, other members of congress, including U.S. Rep. John Sullivan of Tulsa, were there for the quick trip.
Sullivan was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to briefly talk with Oklahoma Watchdog about his time in Copenhagen, as well as discuss issues related to energy policy and other important issues that could potentially affect Oklahomans and all Americans.
Sullivan said he spoke with several Danish politicians who believed that Danes should be happy making no more than $200,000 a year, particularly since the Danish government provides health care. Sullivan countered that such a situation discourages innovation and growth. The Danish politicians, Sullivan said, disagreed.
In the coming year, Sullivan, the only Oklahoma representative on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, will be pushing for a natural gas bill. He said that it is a great energy source and needs to be encouraged.
Additionally, Sullivan said the health care debate continues to be at the forefront. He also plans a resolution honoring the late Tulsa evangelist Oral Roberts.
Sullivan also supports the “72 hour rule” that will allow for the public to read a bill up to 72 hours prior to it being taken up for a vote.
Oklahoma Watchdog will be talking more with Congressman Sullivan and other members of Oklahoma’s congressional delegation in the coming months.
